Ukraine redefined modern warfare by halting the advance of an overmatched, highly mechanized opponent through the use of First-Person View (FPV) drones. Since the war started, Kyiv has trained over 5,000 drone pilots.
Its tactics were a wake-up call for major armies, including the United States and Germany, to reconsider their war strategies. Now, war and gaming enthusiasts can practice flying FPV drones to their targets to destroy heavy equipment, such as tanks and armored personnel carriers (APCs).
Gamers can fly Ukrainian FPV drones at home.
Developed by Ukraine-based SIMTECH SOLUTIONS, the Ukrainian Fight Drone Simulator (UFDS) became available on Steam on December 10, 2025.
“It’s designed for non-military users primarily to give them a basic understanding and experience of operating a combat drone in true-to-life conditions”, Oleg, a member of the Ukrainian Drone Fight Group (UFDS), told Euronews.
The simulator presents real-life experiences of the challenges Ukrainian FPV drone soldiers face daily on the frontlines. Some users claim it represents a hyper-realistic Ukrainian frontline, with authentic weather and detailed maps.
However, it restricts certain features and missions, potentially to prevent adversaries from learning about the Ukrainian army tactics, thus adapting or implementing countermeasures to dispel drone attacks on the actual battlefield.
Meanwhile, Russia has already changed its tactics and even started deploying its own UAVs, such as Gerbera and Gortenzia FPV drones, to destroy Ukrainian defenses, armor, and halt counteroffensives.
However, it stands out for deploying military grade kamikaze drones such as Shahed Geran-1 and Geran-2 versions, to target Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
System requirements for Ukrainian FPV Drone Simulator and pricing.
Unfortunately, there is no free version of the Ukrainian Fight Drone Simulator. However, the Starter Edition currently retails for $29.99.
Similarly, PC users with integrated graphics, like Intel’s UHD cards, will be disappointed as the Ukrainian Fight Drone Simulator requires a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU), with the Nvidia RTX 3060 and AMD Radeon RX 570 as the minimum requirements.
However, the use of powerful GPUs helps the Ukrainian drone simulator represent hyper-realistic physics that mimic the actual battlefield. While unconfirmed, some claim it feels realistic even for experienced Ukrainian FPV drone pilots.
The FPV drone simulator also decently lists the 64-bit versions of Windows 11, DirectX Version 12, 16GB of RAM, and 28GB of free storage space as the minimum requirements.
However, it can run on much older processors, such as the ten-year-old Intel Core i7-6600K Skylake processor or the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, sparing most gamers from the need to upgrade their rigs.
The downsides of the Ukrainian FPV drone simulator.
The Ukrainian Drone Fight Drone simulator requires RC controllers to play and does not support joysticks. Some users complain that RC controllers that work on other games don’t work on the Ukrainian FPV drone simulator. Gamers who overcame the challenge recommend using a real RC transmitter like TX12. Incompatibility with existing RC controllers seems to irk many users, resulting in negative reviews.
Some even regret that they cannot play the Ukrainian FPV drone Simulator using an ordinary mouse and a keyboard or even a joystick. Others allege the lack of manuals or tutorials, which could be a challenge for inexperienced gamers.
Additionally, although users complain of a lack of adequate missions, the Ukrainian FPV drone simulator is positively rated on Steam, with nearly two-thirds of users satisfied.
Despite the shortcomings, users are optimistic that many of the missing features will be available in future releases.
